Mother Instructs Expert international Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell After Holiday Illness

A mother has instructed expert international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how her four-year-old daughter fell ill with suspected Cryptosporidium while on a sunshine holiday to Turkey.

Louise Ward who travelled with her mother as part of group of 16 holidaymakers suffered gastric illness after she fell ill with severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea in the second week of her two-week stay at the four-star Eftalia complex consisting of the Aqua, Splash, Ocean and Village Hotels in the Turkish resort of Antalya.

Her mum Gemma Medway, from Bristol, had to seek medical attention for Louise upon their return to the UK due to her on-going symptoms. Tests revealed that Louise had contracted Cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite which causes severe gastric symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting and is often spread through contaminated water..

Gemma, 33, has now instructed specialist International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate conditions at the hotel and to take legal action against tour operator Sunmaster Limited, part of the Global travel group.

Cryptosporidium is a serious illness which can have long-term health implications for those affected, particularly vulnerable young children.

Gemma, a housewife, and Louise were among a party of eight adults and eight children who were staying at the hotel for a big family holiday, all of whom became unwell during their stay,  after booking the full board holiday through Sunmaster Limited,

Louise fell ill in the second week of her holiday and returned home still unwell.

They told their legal team at Irwin Mitchell that some of the food was served uncovered, and that food appeared to be served on more than one occasion.

Gemma said: “We were both really looking forward to what we thought was going to be an amazing holiday.

“But our holiday turned into a nightmare when Louise became poorly.  To see my daughter cramped up in severe pain as her illness took hold of her was absolutely heart-breaking; I was in tears.

“I would never knowingly put my daughter’s health at risk. Louise is making steady progress as she continues her recovery but she is still not 100 per cent right. You don’t expect to come home from holiday with a serious illness.

“I just want to know what caused her to fall so ill and am seeking answers from Sunmaster.”
