Specialist Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell Have Been Instructed To Investigate The Extent Of Exposure To Hazardous Material
A former Reading Corporation Transport apprentice is appealing to his ex-colleagues for help after being diagnosed with lung disease linked to exposure to harmful asbestos during the 1950s.
Michael John Mundy was diagnosed with diffuse pleural thickening in January 2015, after suffering with a persistent cough and shortness of breath. Pleural thickening is a lung disease whereby extensive scarring thickens the lining of the lungs.
The 82-year-old has instructed specialist industrial disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the extent of his exposure to the hazardous material. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who worked with the father-of-three at the Mill Lane depot in Reading during the 1950s.
Alexandra Lausen, specialist asbestos–related disease lawyer at Irwin Mitchell is representing Michael.
Expert Opinion
Through our contact with those suffering from diffuse pleural thickening, we are well aware of the common use of asbestos in a number of workplaces and that a significant number of employees have been exposed to the hazardous substance during their working life.
“We would like to hear from Michael’s former work colleagues, who may be able to assist us in understanding the extent to which employees were exposed to asbestos dust at the Reading Corporation Transport Depot. Anyone who has information regarding the working conditions Michael was exposed to should contact us as soon as possible.” Alexandra Lausen - Associate Solicitor
Michael served a five-year apprenticeship with Reading Corporation Transport between the ages of 16 and 21. Between 1951 and 1956, Michael worked in a number of different departments, including the drawing office, the machine shop, the electrical department, the welding section and vehicle maintenance section.
Whilst in the vehicle maintenance department, Michael remembers spending up to nine months removing and replacing old brake linings on buses which contained asbestos.
Michael has a son, Richard, 52, and two daughters, 53-year-old Kay and Tracy, 49, with his wife Diana. He would be very grateful for any information his former work colleagues can provide.
