Law firm Irwin Mitchell Supports International Brain Injury Project

Leading law firm Irwin Mitchell are taking part in a project aimed at helping clinicians in Bangladesh learn how to identify, treat and rehabilitate those who have suffered a brain injury.

Irwin Mitchell’s specialists in Birmingham are working in conjunction with neuroscientist, Dr Dave Quinn, and Professor Graham Powell, a Chartered Psychologist, to support the Nasirullah Foundation.

The project hopes to give medics on the ground in Bangladesh knowledge to provide better care for those with acquired brain injuries.

Irwin Mitchell’s dedicated team of legal specialists, who fight for justice on behalf of people with brain injuries, are supporting the project in line with their social responsibly charter which includes promoting race and diversity within the international community.

The firm has paid for 42 neuropsychology textbooks to help boost the learning process and assist in the clinician’s treatment of patients in the future.

Thanks to the extensive work the team of lawyers and solicitors at Irwin Mitchell have carried out alongside people living with brain injuries, which ranges from Court of Protection cases to medical negligence claims, they fully understand the importance of schemes such as this.

The first stage of the project began in January this year when Dr Quinn travelled to Bangladesh to deliver training focusing on anatomy, physiology and the types of brain injury, as well as rehabilitation techniques, to a group of 40 clinicians.

It is hoped that the clinicians will then be able to pass their knowledge on to the wider medical community in Bangladesh.

Dr Quinn commented on the importance of doctors sharing their experience on an international level, and said: “I can’t imagine doing anything in my career more important than training a country’s clinicians for the first time in the assessment and treatment of brain injury, and that is why I am so passionate about it.

“I’ve worked with Irwin Mitchell for over 20 years and have a long standing relationship with them in terms of their support for people with brain injuries. The Nasirullah Foundation has committed to providing the Neuropsychology profession in Bangladesh with the highest standard of training in evidence based practice that we can manage. These books form an essential part of that resource.”
