Irwin Mitchell’s Fiona McGhie Named Junior Lawyer Of The Year

Public law expert Fiona McGhie from Irwin Mitchell has been recognised as a rising star in legal profession after being named Junior Lawyer of the Year at the Bristol Law Society Awards.

The prestigious awards, held on Thursday 13th October, at the city centre Bristol Marriott Hotel, celebrate the best of the best in the industry locally.

Fiona, a solicitor based in the law firm’s Bristol office, was recognised for her exceptional dedication to upholding the human rights and civil liberties of her clients.

At a time where access to justice and legal aid is increasingly under pressure, Fiona has tenaciously championed the rights of her clients and raised awareness through her cases of the importance of the Human Rights Act for everyone.

Her outstanding work over the past year has seen her represent the family of Logan Peters at the inquest into his death after the coroner found that prior to his death he had been subjected to a period of unlawful detention, unlawful use of force and an unlawful strip search.

She has also been instructed by the mother of toddler Poppi Worthington, in relation to the inquest into her death. 

Beyond her casework, Fiona is also committed to supporting the local legal sector and is a committee member for both the South West Administrative Law Association and the South West Court of Protection Practitioners Association.

She has also recently been appointed as a trustee of the Public Law Project and her role involves ensuring that PLP remains successful in achieving its objectives to improve access to public law remedies.
