Matthew Llewellyn-Jones Was Able To Leave Cedars Mental Health Unit In Exeter And Was Later Found Dead

The family of a man who was found dead after walking out of a mental health facility is hoping the inquest into his death will shed some light on his final hours.

Matthew Llewellyn-Jones, from Sidmouth, Devon, had a history of mental health problems and was admitted to Cedars Mental Health Unit in Exeter just a day before his death on March 16 last year.

The 37-year-old’s family instructed expert medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to represent them at the four-day hearing into his death, due to be held at Exeter and Greater Devon Coroner’s Court today (October 10).

“This has been an incredibly difficult time for Matthew’s family who have many unanswered questions regarding the circumstances leading to his death and the level of care he received at Cedars Mental Health Unit.

“It is our hope that the inquest into his death will be able to provide them with the answers they long for and identify any lessons which can be learned by those responsible for his care.

“It is Matthew’s family’s greatest wish that no one else suffers as Matthew did or as they continue to today.”
