British Tourists Injured As Coach Crashes On Way To The Airport. Specialist International Lawyers Call For Witnesses
A British couple is taking legal action after suffering serious injuries in a coach crash on the way to Barcelona airport following their holiday this September.
Business owners Paul and Tina Campbell, from Grimsby, visited Lloret de Mar for a late summer holiday but their coach crashed on the way back to Barcelona airport on 14 September 2016 leaving Tina in intensive care for four days and subsequently paralysed, while Paul also suffered several injuries.
The couple has instructed specialist international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the crash and help them recover compensation and, together with their legal team, Paul and Tina are now appealing for anyone who may have been involved in the crash or witnessed it to come forward with information to help with their enquiries.
It is believed that 24 people were left injured in the crash which happened after the coach had left the resort of Lloret de Mar, 46 miles (74km) north of Barcelona, and was crossing the city en route to El Prat airport when it crashed.
As they prepared to fly back to the UK, the couple left their hotel and boarded their coach to the airport. A short time into the journey both Tina and Paul fell asleep but with the rain coming down heavily, the couple were awoken by the sounds of screams from the other passengers and the coach swerving, prior to crashing.
The subsequent crash left Tina with numerous severe injuries including damage to her spinal cord, a punctured lung, broken shoulder blades, broken ribs, injuries to her vertebrae and a head injury. Paul also sustained injuries in the crash, although these were not as severe as those suffered by his wife.
The crash hospitalised Tina and for the four days following she was in intensive care before remaining in hospital for six more days in Spain, prior to being transferred back to the UK, Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, where she is still receiving treatment and undergoing rehabilitation.
Paul, 52, who owns a mortgage/finance advisory firm with his wife, said: “This clearly wasn’t the ending to our holiday that we expected when we boarded the coach transfer to the airport. Our lives have been completely changed by the injuries that Tina has sustained.
“As we had fallen asleep we were unaware as to exactly how the initial events unfolded that caused the coach to crash. We just remember the screams and the coach swerving before the crash itself. It was absolutely terrifying with Tina being in hospital and having to spend time in intensive care.
“Since returning to the UK, Tina is still in hospital undergoing further treatment and physiotherapy. We just hope that anyone who knows what happened will get in touch to help our legal team with their investigation.”
Philip Banks, a specialist legal expert in the international personal injury team at Irwin Mitchell representing the couple, said:
