Dawn Bradley can now only stand for five minutes at a time as a result of her injuries
A woman whose right leg was smashed and chest crushed in a head-on collision with another driver has received a six-figure settlement to help cover the costs of her rehabilitation and recovery.
Dawn Bradley instructed expert serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of the crash after being left unable to walk for more than five minutes at a time or stand for more than two.
The 50-year-old from Leicestershire was driving on the B4680 close to Hinkley Rugby Ground on September 7, 2012 when a car travelling from the opposite direction attempted to overtake a vehicle on a blind bend and crashed head-on into Dawn’s Kia Picanto.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle died from their injuries at the scene and Dawn suffered a fractured sternum and ribs, crushed lower right leg and cuts and grazes.
Almost four years on the former healthcare assistant has been unable to return to work and still suffers from debilitating pain. She has undergone four separate surgeries to her right leg and has been told to expect more.
Now Dawn’s specialist legal team at Irwin Mitchell has secured an undisclosed six-figure settlement from the other driver’s insurers which will cover the costs of on-going rehabilitation and therapy. It will also pay for home help and maintenance to help her live independently. The funds will be managed on Dawn’s behalf by Irwin Mitchell’s Asset Management Team to ensure she gets the maximum benefit from her settlement.
Dawn, who still requires crutches to move around, said: “I’m still haunted by the events of that day and my injuries are a constant reminder of the fact that two people died in the crash and that my life changed forever.
“People should not underestimate the consequences of car accidents and I’m lucky to be alive.
“I am just incredibly relieved that I will now have access to the best rehabilitative care and support that I need to overcome the daily challenges I face because of my injuries. I used to love walking in the countryside and long bike rides, but those things are completely out of my reach now and that in itself has been very difficult to accept.”
