Irwin Mitchell and National Organisations Offer Advice And Support To Residents

Over 200 people attended a free Health Awareness Day in Leeds at the weekend organised by law firm Irwin Mitchell who teamed up with a number of health charities and businesses to help members of the community access health-related advice, testing and support.

The event took place over the weekend at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds City Centre and saw national organisations such as the British Heart Foundation, Stroke Association, Specsavers, Freedom Clinics and Speedflex being on hand to offer health guidance to visitors.

Hundreds of people attending the event in the city had the benefit of free health checks including: BMI checks, eye sight tests, hearing tests and blood pressure tests.  Mini massages were provided with donations going to a local hospice and in addition; breast cancer charity, Coppafeel were on hand throughout the day to discuss the signs and symptoms of breast cancer to help raise awareness and assist early diagnosis.

“We were really pleased to see so many people attend the event at the weekend – it was a great day and everyone who came had access to free health checks and advice from all the organisations.

“We were also delighted to have so many fantastic health organisations and charities there, delivering this service to the community in Leeds for the first time. The Stoke Association were able to identify a few people who had high blood pressure results, all were advised to seek advice from their local GPs aside from one lady was advised to go to A&E as her blood pressure was particularly high.

“It can sometimes be difficult to come to terms with health problems and approach medical professionals for advice on general health and lifestyle. However, events like this provide people in the community with the opportunity to come along and learn more about different conditions and other related issues without having to go to the trouble of making appointments etc. We hope to run the event again and next time would like to include blood cholesterol and diabetes advice.”
