Initiative Launched By Mouth Cancer Foundation To Raise Awareness Of Condition
Specialist lawyers who represent victims injured as a result of problems in dental care are lending their support to a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the importance of checking for symptoms of mouth cancer.
National law firm Irwin Mitchell is the sole legal partner of the Mouth Cancer Foundation’s new Bite Back at Mouth Cancer campaign, which is based around encouraging the public to use a simple head and neck check once a month to spot anything which may be out of the ordinary.
According to the charity, around 60,000 people in the UK are expected to be diagnosed with mouth cancer over the next decade.
Devised by Mouth Cancer Foundation Ambassadors, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Mahesh Kumar and Dentist Philip Lewis, the eight-step check for the condition is also backed by GP and TV medical expert Dr Dawn Harper.
The Embarrassing Bodies star added that the self-check takes less than two minutes, explaining: “At each step you are inspecting and feeling for any lumps, red or white patches, changes in colour or texture, lingering ulcers or anything unusual.”
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Dental Negligence team specialises in helping patients who have suffered injury or illness as a result of problems in dental care, including those who have gone on to develop mouth cancer.
As well as sponsoring the Bite Back at Mouth Cancer campaign, the legal experts are also lending their support to the Mouth Cancer Foundation’s upcoming 10th anniversary walk. The 10km walk in London’s Hyde Park is being held from 12 noon on September 19th.
