Successful Quiz Night In Southampton Raises £3725 After Barclays Match Fund The Event
The South Coast Brain of Brainwave Quiz gave everyone the answer they were looking for when enough money was raised for Irwin Mitchell to become a Brainwave Guardian for Hattie, a young girl who suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Joubert syndrome.
The event took place at the Royal Yacht Club in Southampton and successfully raised both awareness and money for local charity Brainwave.
Brainwave work with children with a wide range of conditions and developmental needs including cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, Down’s syndrome and autism. Hattie is one of over 600 children that the charity cares for thanks to its supporters and dedicated therapy teams.
The evening offered attendees, who paid £120 to enter teams of up to eight people, the chance to enjoy a fun filled quiz but also learn more about the charity and the great work it does. A raffle also took place to raise additional funds and included a range of great prizes that had been donated by local businesses.
Although the quiz was enjoyed by all in attendance the undoubted highlight of the night was a moving speech by Hattie’s mother Julie who reaffirmed just how important the charity was to her. She said:
“For us Brainwave really has had a huge impact on our whole family. It has given us the ability to enjoy life again; it's given us hope for what amazing things are ahead for Hattie and for us all as a family.
“She is one of the best things to ever happen to us and has taught us so much in her short life. I am so proud to call her my daughter.”
After her speech our Southampton office surprised Hattie’s parents with the news that the night had raised £3725 thanks to Barclays match funding the event. This meant that Irwin Mitchell would officially become a Brainwave Guardian for Hattie and will be able to provide one year’s support and equipment and follow her development through the Brainwave programme.
Justine Spencer, Head of the Southampton Medical Negligence team at Irwin Mitchell and compere at the event said: “The night couldn’t really have gone much better. The atmosphere was fantastic and the charity got lots of exposure and support from everyone in attendance.
“Being able to tell Hattie’s parents that we had become her Brainwave Guardian was a truly special moment as it was not one they expected at all but will mean such a great deal to their family.
“Thanks must go to Barclays for offering to match fund the event and to the people there who showed such generosity to what is a truly excellent cause.”
