According to papers filed at the San Francisco superior court, the dispute sees Williams' widow Susan Schneider accusing his children of taking the actor's personal belongings without her consent.
The items involved in the disagreement include those kept by Williams in storage across two of his homes, including his 1998 Oscar for the film Good Will Hunting as well as a number of watches.
In addition, the report explains how Williams' wife had asked that the items found in the home the couple shared were to be kept separate from those left to the children by the actor.
Williams' children – Zachary, Zelda and Cody – argue that Susan is attempting to alter the agreement of their trust, adding "insult to terrible injury", and their entitlement to Williams' belongings should not be limited in any way.
As the third wife of Williams, Ms Schneider married the actor and comedian in 2011, and was with him up to his death in August 2014.
