Loan Will Finance Redevelopment Of Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London will receive a £20 million loan to finance its redevelopment, in what has been hailed as a victory for people with spinal injuries.
The hospital, which is the largest of its kind in the UK and a leading centre for musculo-skeletal research, received unconditional approval for the loan from the NHS Trust Development Authority.
It follows years of campaigning by the hospital, which in February this year warned that it was on the brink of closure due to its dilapidated buildings. However, the situation began to improve in March, when it was given the green light to complete the final major phase of its rebuilding project.
"This is a great victory for the hospital and will be a huge relief to all of the hardworking staff who have been providing a world-class service in substandard conditions for far too long," Bob Blackman, Conservative candidate for Harrow East, told the Harrow Times.

Expert Opinion
The services provided by the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital offer critical care to those who have suffered serious spinal injuries, which makes it extremely welcome that financing has been secured to redevelop the facility that was reportedly on the brink of closure.

“In our work representing people with spinal injuries we have seen the first-class treatment offered at this hospital and hope that the funding will be used to improve the facility and allow it to continue to perform as a centre of excellence for spinal injury care and offer patients the very highest standards of care.

“Rehabilitation, care and support is absolutely crucial for those who have suffered a serious injury of any kind, and we hope that progress can be made on the redevelopment of the hospital, to ensure it can still offer the much-needed treatment patients with spinal injuries require.
