Wills scheme to boost The Children’s Hospital Charity

Kind-hearted donors can leave a legacy to charity in their Will thanks to a partnership between The Children’s Hospital Charity and law firm Irwin Mitchell.

The agreement will see the charity receive a payment for every Will written through the scheme, as well as raising awareness of legacy gifts – where people leave legacies to the charity in their will.

Legacy donations are a major driver of income for many charities, including The Children’s Hospital Charity, which supports The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield – one of only four specialist stand-alone hospitals in the UK and a centre of excellence providing world class care for over 240,000 patient journeys each year.

David Vernon Edwards, charity director, said: “A gift in a Will helps us to enhance the lives of children in our care. Everything we do is focused on providing our patients the best facilities, equipment and experience possible.

“Every gift from a Will no matter how large or small can make a difference. We are right in the heart of our Make it Better appeal to raise £10m by 2016 so we can transform the hospital buildings and deliver a truly world class healthcare facility.”

“Around 60 per cent of adults don’t have a Will and many don’t realise that the intestacy laws, which decide how assets should be split if you die without a will, can be very complicated and there are many myths about what happens to your money and assets.

There are two options to benefit the Charity as part of the scheme:

1. For each new Will processed through the scheme, Irwin Mitchell will make an immediate payment to The Children’s Hospital Charity.
2. Leaving a legacy donation to The Children’s Hospital Charity. Anyone wishing to do so needs to ensure the Will quotes the charity registration number – 505002.
   Anyone writing a Will through The Children’s Hospital Charity scheme with Irwin Mitchell will also receive a discount on the price of their Will.
