Concerns Regarding Possible Cleaning Fluid Contamination In Certain Products
A product recall has been launched by Dairy Crest Ltd in relation to certain date codes of Whole British Milk products sold by Morrisons and as part of Budgen’s Supervalu range.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has revealed that six-pint packs of Morrisons Whole British Milk with the use-by dates of 5th November 2014 and 7th November 2014 are subject to the recall.
Six-pint packs of Supervalu from Budgens Whole British Milk with use-by dates of 5th November and 7th November 2014 are also being recalled.
According to the FSA, the action is being taken as a result of concerns that the products may have become contaminated with cleaning fluid during production. Any consumers who believe that they have purchased such products have been asked to not consume them and instead return them to the store from which they purchased them for a refund.
Product recall notices are also set to be displayed in Morrisons and Budgens stores to further raise awareness of this issue.
Expert Opinion
While it is very welcome to see action is being undertaken to try to minimise the risks faced by consumers, it is concerning that this issue has arisen in the first place and it is essential that clear steps are taken to investigate how the problem occurred. <br/> <br/>"The nature of our work means that we have seen numerous cases where people have suffered serious illnesses as a result of the consumption of contaminated food and drink. Our experts ensure that these people gain access to vital support and compensation for the illnesses which they have suffered and the disruption such issues can cause to their lives. <br/> <br/>"The seriousness of such issues should not be underestimated and it is clear that, where possible, lessons should be learned to prevent such issues from being repeated again in the future."
