Expert Travel Lawyers Instructed To Investigate Cause Of Illness As Family Holiday Ruined
A family of four has instructed expert illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate after their trip to a five-star Egyptian hotel was ‘ruined’ when three of the group suffered severe gastric illness, leaving one of them hooked up to an IV drip.Kay Taylor-Baldwin, 37, and her husband 35, from Doncaster, travelled to the Sensatori Hotel with their two sons, in August this year expecting a two week long relaxing family break.
But whilst on the holiday Kay, her husband and their eldest son began suffering symptoms including diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Kay and her husband also suffered vomiting. Kay visited the hotel clinic and was placed on an IV drip and also received an injection and was prescribed antibiotics.
Since returning home Kay has continued to suffer with symptoms of the illness and the family have now instructed legal specialists in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team to investigate the cause of the illness suffered.
The family have also advised that other families fell ill with similar symptoms at the resort during the time they stayed there.
Amandeep Samra, the legal specialist in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team, representing the family, said: “Our clients booked their holiday through TUI UK Limited T/A Thomson. We are now investigating our clients’ concerns to determine the cause of their illness, particularly as gastric illness can leave victims suffering long-term effects.
“For Kay, her husband and their sons, their holiday was supposed to be an enjoyable family trip, but instead they were unable to enjoy themselves and were left feeling angry and disappointed by their experience.
“It is also very concerning to hear the family report that other guests were also ill.”
Kay, a NHS worker said: “We had been looking forward to the holiday for months, but it was absolutely horrendous, as myself, my husband and our eldest son became very ill. I’m still suffering symptoms now.
“On occasions some of the food was served uncovered and I noticed food was sometimes served lukewarm when it should have been hot. I also saw food that was undercooked a couple of times which included chicken and beef. At one of the sittings I saw one of the chefs touch raw meat and then touch cooked meat without changing their gloves.
“We have stayed in other hotels in Egypt which were classed as four-star resorts so when we booked this we were expecting a good hotel with good food and the room we wanted and paid for. However, we would not rate the Sensatori as a five-star hotel and would never return there. It was not just us who were affected by illness during our stay, as many other families and holidaymakers staying at the hotel were suffering similar symptoms.
“We want answers about what caused us to become so severely ill and have now instructed Irwin Mitchell to investigate on our behalf.”
