Former Broadcaster Given Addition Term For Abuse
Former broadcaster Stuart Hall has been sentenced to an additional two years and six months in prison for two counts of indecent assault.
The 84-year-old, who is already serving a 30-month jail term after pleading guilty to indecent assault on 13 other girls across a period of 20 years, admitted one count of indecent assault on a girl prior to the start of the trial.
He was then found guilty of another count of indecent assault in relation to the same girl earlier this month by a jury at Preston Crown Court.
Lord Justice Turner said while passing sentence that Hall’s offences were “an act of vile bravado and horrible betrayal.”
Today’s sentencing will only begin following the end of Hall’s current jail term.
Expert Opinion
The revelations which have emerged relating to Stuart Hall in the past 12 months have been incredibly shocking, particularly when coming after the terrible scandal regarding Jimmy Savile. <br/> <br/>"Today’s sentencing will hopefully go some way towards helping Hall’s victims to begin to look forward and move on with their lives after what has been for some years of significant psychological trauma. <br/> <br/>"Having acted for a huge number of people whose lives have been devastating by abuse, we know the long-term effects that such problems can have on victims. It is vital that those affected continue to receive the counselling and support they need to begin to come to terms with what they have faced. <br/> <br/>"We also hope that work can continue to ensure that lessons are learned so that people of all ages can be safeguarded from potential abuse and prevented from suffering the same ordeals as seen here."
