Consett Woman Continues Legal Battle For Justice Over Problems

A Consett woman who suffered a series of shocking problems after breast implant surgery at a clinic in Newcastle has spoken of her disappointment following a General Medical Council (GMC) ruling on the fitness to practice of the surgeon who carried out the work.

Andrea Scott, 35, suffered serious complications including stitches bursting open and was left needing a series of corrective procedures after the breast augmentation operation undertaken by surgeon Mr Azhar Aslam organised by the city’s Aesthetic Beauty Centre in January 2010.

Following the conclusion of a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing today (July 1st) in relation to complaints lodged to the General Medical Council by four patients including Mrs Scott, it has been ruled that there is no evidence of impairment on Mr Aslam’s part in relation to Mrs Scott and he is able to continue to practice.

The ruling follows a previous GMC decision, subsequently upheld at the High Court, which saw Dr Ashish Dutta, who arranged and advised on Mrs Scott’s treatment by Mr Azhar, suspended for 12 months.

“Today’s decision is absolutely devastating and my primary concern is that more people will face the same problems that I’ve been through.
