Sepa Overseeing Removal Of Asbestos At Strathallan Castle Estate
A large amount of potential hazardous asbestos has been discovered at the Strathallan Castle Estate, which has been earmarked to host the T in the Park music festival. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has already taken action over the find and will be overseeing the removal of the hazardous material.
Despite the discovery, DF Concerts told The Courier that the asbestos would not impact the plans for the festival and that its scrutiny of the site was adequate.
Exposure to asbestos dust and fibres in the air once it is disturbed can have a number of serious consequences, as the substances can be trapped in the lungs and remain there for a long time.
Over time, these fibres can accumulate and cause scarring and inflammation, which can affect breathing and lead to serious health problems such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Concerns have been raised that a survey of the site ahead of permission being granted to host the festival was not carried out correctly.
