Widow Of Former Painter Appeals For His Former Workmates To Come Forward

Leonard Duckworth was diagnosed with the asbestos-related cancer in August 2009. He died in May 2010, aged 73.

During his lifetime, Mr Duckworth believed he was exposed to the deadly dust during his time working for Dalys Plumbing and Painting Contractors, based initially on Stoney Stanton Road in Coventry, between 1955 and 1961.

His widow has instructed industrial illness experts at law firm Irwin Mitchell to help in her battle for justice, as her husband was never warned about the dangers of asbestos or given protective clothing or equipment. Mrs Duckworth is now asking former work colleagues to help provide lawyers with information on the working conditions he faced.

Mrs Duckworth said: “Leonard believed that he was exposed to asbestos between 1955 and 1960/61 when he worked on painting pipe work. He would tell me how he would have to remove old asbestos lagging before painting. The pipe work would often be heavily lagged with asbestos.’’

Mr Duckworth recalled his supervisor was known by the name of Brian Skellsey.
