Reports Link Problems At King’s Lynn Site To Formaldehyde Leak

Investigations are continuing after three man were taken to hospital in King’s Lynn on (March 21st) following a suspected chemical incident at the Bespak plant in the town.

Emergency services including a chemical incident unit were called to the site on the evening, with reports emerging that the incident related to a leak of formaldehyde gas.

All three of the men affected were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital following the incident, while it was confirmed that the incident posed no risk to public safety.

Commenting on this incident, he said: “Working in close proximity to harmful gases and fumes can be fraught with risks, but there are many guidelines and regulations in place in this area to ensure a high standard of health and safety.

“This incident has obviously raised many questions but we hope that safety authorities in Norfolk can work with emergency services to ensure that answers can be provided as to how these problems emerged.

“Any information gathered could prove key in ensuring that any lessons are learned and, where possible, health and safety standards improved further.”
