Tayside Police Name Victim As Edinburgh Man

The British Parachute Association and police are continuing their investigations into an accident in which a 56-year-old man from Edinburgh died after a parachute jump.

David Ball died instantly when he struck the ground following the jump at Strathallan Airfield near Auchterarder in Perthshire on Saturday (January 5th), with reports suggesting he died when his first parachute failed to open.

Tayside Police have said ongoing inquiries are underway while a report will also be submitted to the procurator fiscal. It is believed Mr Ball was an experience skydiver and had undertaken numerous jumps previously.

“Another concern is that this is believed to be the latest in a string on incidents at this specific airfield, so it is vital that all aspects of safety on the site are assessed and reviewed with a view to preventing the same problems emerging again in the future.

“Everything must be done to ensure that the issues seen in this incident are not repeated.”
