Investigations are underway after a suspected gas explosion in central London which left one man with serious head injuries and burns yesterday (February 4th).
The man was taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital following the incident on the sixth floor of Pier House in Chelsea, which also led to the evacuation of around 50 people from both the building and a neighbour block.
Metropolitan Police have revealed building work was ongoing at the block around the time of the incident, while reports reveal the local council has also confirmed the National Grid is investigating.
Irwin Mitchell has vast experience in representing people injured in serious accidents in public places, notably acting for victims who were affected by the devastating gas explosion in Salford in 2010.
David Urpeth, a Partner and serious injury specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said: “While it must be stressed that little is known about this incident, it is absolutely vital that all aspects of the blast are carefully examined to develop a full picture of the circumstances surrounding it.
“We have, through our work, seen the terrible consequences that such incidents can have for many people both physically and psychologically, so it is absolutely vital that all of those affected are given comprehensive answers as to what has happened.
“In addition, the investigations must lead to a greater understanding of the key concerns surrounding such incidents, which ultimately will also lead to improvements in gas safety in general.”
