Latest Move Reaffirms Irwin Mitchell’s Strategic Drive To Continue Growing Commercial Team
By David Shirt
National law firm, Irwin Mitchell, has boosted its intellectual property team with the appointment of senior IP partner, Georgie Collins, from Brown Rudnick.
The move to appoint Georgie is the latest senior appointment by Irwin Mitchell as the national firm continues to drive forward with its plans to invest and significantly grow its UK-wide business legal services team.
Georgie, who was head of IP at Brown Rudnick and previously held the same role at Lawrence Graham, advises clients on all aspects of protection, commercialisation and enforcement of IP rights. She is known for her significant experience in cross border disputes and also for her expertise when representing clients in relation to parallel importation or counterfeiting issues.
She has been recognised for many years as a ‘leading individual’ in Chambers and Partners and has been described as a ‘practitioner par excellence with a rare insight into multinational and multidisciplinary problems’ and ‘business-savvy and brilliant at developing client relationships’.
Georgie Collins said: "Irwin Mitchell is now an established name in the commercial legal arena and despite the challenging macro economic conditions during the last few years, the firm has continued to invest and grow its business team whilst other firms have cut their operations back. Irwin Mitchell is committed to building one of the UK’s strongest IP legal teams which, along with the firm’s overall vision for growth, is something I am very excited about."
Niall Baker, partner and chief executive of Irwin Mitchell’s Business Legal Services team, said: "Georgie is an important acquisition for Irwin Mitchell and we are confident she has the skills, expertise and entrepreneurial approach to help the firm build and expand its IP practice.
"She has developed a strong reputation working with a broad range of clients in a range of sectors including fashion and luxury goods and she complements our current IP team extremely well.
"Her appointment illustrates our commitment to investment in our Business Legal Services team and our confidence in the future. Georgie is another example of the type of high calibre individual that we are attracting to Irwin Mitchell and as we continue to build our business legal services team, there will certainly be more to come."
Georgie’s arrival marks Irwin Mitchell's twelfth new partner to be announced within the firm’s Business Legal Services team in the last year.
These appointments include restructuring specialist John Vickery, head of BLS in Birmingham, Chris Rawstron, and real estate partners Anita Weightman, Patrick Duffy, Tony Weightman and Roy Beckett.
