Death at Manchester Hospital Investigated

An inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a young baby at a Manchester hospital is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 15th at 10am and expected to last three days.

Maninder Singh was born at St Mary’s Hospital on Oxford Road in October 2008 but sadly died six months later – he remained in the hospital’s intensive care unit throughout his life and passed away on May 4th, 2009.

The hearing at Manchester Coroner’s Court will be attended by Maninder’s father, Kamaljeet, from Urmston, who also lost his wife Geeta to multiple organ failure, septicaemia and diabetes just months after the birth of the couple’s second child in January 2010.

Sharon Williams, a medical law and patients’ rights expert from Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office, is representing the family in their battle for answers. She said: “The past four years have been extremely difficult for Mr Singh and his family, who have many questions about Maninder’s death.

“They hope that the inquest will provide some opportunity for them to learn more about the events of his birth in October 2008, as well as the circumstances surrounding his passing in May 2009.”
