Concerns Raised Over Safety Caps
The company behind the Oven Pride and BBQ Pride brands has launched a recall of all of its stock in each range following concerns related to the safety cap mechanism on its bottles.
McBride is taking the precautionary step after two-year-old Callum Blackshaw, from Essex, suffered severe internal burns when he drank several mouthfuls of Oven Pride. He has been hospitalised for three weeks and may require an oesophagus transplant following the incident.
It is believed the youngster managed to open the child lock on the bottle’s safety cap before drinking the corrosive fluid at his grandmother’s house.
As part of the recall, McBride has also launched a customer helpline for anyone who has any questions regarding the move and the safety of its products.
Irwin Mitchell’s product liability team represent people who have suffered serious injuries as a result of defective products, helping them to gain answers and justice over the problems they have suffered.
David Urpeth, an expert in the area at the national law firm, said: “This incident is clearly a massive cause for concern, and many people will be worried and have questions. Therefore, this significant and decisive action from the company behind the Oven Pride brand must be welcomed.
“We have seen numerous cases in which people have suffered serious injuries as a result of experiences with defective products.
“It is vital now that everything possible is done to fully review the concerns raised about the safety caps on these products and ensuring that any lessons can be learned which ensure no one else is hurt in a similar manner.”
