Number Of People Injured In Incidents On M8 And A872
Two crashes involving minibuses on Scottish roads have put the issue of safety in such vehicles in the spotlight, according to lawyers who specialise in representing victims seriously injured in road traffic collisions.
One man was airlifted to Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital and seven others treated after a minibus carrying 10 passengers left the eastbound carriageway of the M8 near the Shotts turn-off last week.
The incident occurred just a day after four men were seriously injured when a people carrier crashed on the A872 at Pirnhall Roundabout. Six other people were also injured in the incident but have since been discharged from hospital.
Investigations into both incidents are continuing while police have also asked for any witnesses to come forward.
Specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell act for victims left with serious, life-changing injuries as a result of road crashes, helping them to seek justice and gain access to vital rehabilitation services to aid their recovery.
Elaine Russell, an expert in road traffic collision cases at the firm’s Glasgow office, said: “Road safety is a long-running issue for authorities in Scotland and these two terrible cases highlight how important it is that such work continues in earnest.
“Having seen first-hand the huge consequences that such collisions can have on both victims and their families, it is absolutely vital that police thoroughly examine these incidents to determine the cause and how such problems could have been avoided.
“It is also worrying to see these incidents involving people carriers and minibuses come after large-scale incidents like the fatal crash involving a coach travelling back from RockNess in June.
“We hope that steps can be taken to ensure that lessons can be learned that lead to a significant improvement in bus and coach safety, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the terrible problems seen in recent months are not repeated.”
