Investigation Launched Following Fatal Accident In Shopping Centre
An investigation is underway following a work accident at a Marks and Spencer store in Kent, in which a man thought to have been repairing electrical equipment was killed.
Kent Police have revealed officers and an air ambulance were called to the Tunbridge Wells store at the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre on Saturday afternoon (November 3rd), when the unnamed worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers have also said they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the death, while the local council’s health and safety officer is liaising with them as part of the investigation.
David Urpeth, an expert in workplace injury cases at national law firm Irwin Mitchell, said the inquiries should go some way to ensuring that a full picture can be formed as to what happened.
He explained: “We act for the families of people killed in accidents at work, as well as victims who need lifelong care and support after being seriously injured in such incidents, so have seen first-hand the terrible consequences that such issues can have.
“The investigation at this stage will consider all aspects of the incident and the circumstances surrounding it, with a view to ensuring that any lessons can be learned which could go some way to preventing any similar incident from occurring again in the future.
“This incident has obviously raised safety concerns which need to be addressed so we hope that answers can be provided in relation to it.”
