Expert Lawyer Calls On Authorities To Act Quickly To Discover The Cause
Expert lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are calling on the authorities to act quickly to discover what caused a major chemical leak in the Old Trafford area of Manchester yesterday (16 November) to prevent any further similar incidents.
Parts of Trafford Park in the city were closed after a large scale leak of what it believed to be hydrochloric acid gas at Chemtura Manufacturing UK Ltd in Tenax Road.
More than 50 firefighters, police and paramedics attended the scene, workers were evacuated and residents around Trafford Park were told to keep their doors and windows closed.
Firefighters wearing chemical protection suits doused the gas with water after being called to the scene just after 6pm. Roads were closed and medics were on standby.
Irwin Mitchell specialises in acting for people who have suffered illness and injury as a result of chemical leaks in the workplace and public places.
David Urpeth, a Partner at Irwin Mitchell who specialises in cases of this nature, said: “Reports about this incident are clearly concerning and from our work in relation to chemical leaks we are aware of the significant impact that exposure to hazardous materials can have.
“We hope that more information can be gathered quickly by firefighters, the police and the chemical plant in relation to this incident, with an ultimate view to ensure that workers and local residents can be given reassurances over the safety steps taken and how the incident was handled.
“It is also vital that every effort is made to ensure that lessons are learnt so the same problems seen here are not repeated again.”
