HSE And Police Investigate Incident In Merseyside

An investigation has been launched after a man died following an incident in which he suffered serious injuries at the Jaguar Land Rover factory in Halewood, Merseyside.

Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive have confirmed they are working together to discover what happened, after it emerged that emergency services were called to the factory last night (September 26th).

Despite emergency treatment at Whiston Hospital, the victim – a man in his 40s – was pronounced dead several hours later. No one else was hurt in the incident.

David Urpeth, national head of workplace injury at Irwin Mitchell, represents a number of people who have suffered life-changing injuries in work accidents, as well as the families of those who have died in such incidents.

Commenting on this case, he said: “There is a clear need for answers in relation to what happened in this case and we hope that both the HSE and police can work quickly to thoroughly examine this industrial accident.

“It is particularly important that efforts are made to determine whether any possible safety failings may have played a part in what came to occur.

“Ultimately however, it is vital that as much information can be gathered with a view fully piecing together what happened in the lead-up to the incident and, particularly, whether it could have been avoided.

“Any such examination will hopefully ensure that lessons can be learnt and the same issues will not be seen again.”
