Settlement 'To Provide Better Quality Of Life'
A leading North East serious injury lawyer has today secured a seven-figure care package for a Teesside girl left facing lifelong care needs after she was hit by a car seven years ago.
Vicki Hart, now 22, from Cleveland, was just 14 when she was struck by a taxi whilst crossing Rectory Road at Guisborough Park, near her home on a rainy night on 17th January 2004. She suffered catastrophic injuries, including a very severe brain injury, and a fractured pelvis and arm.
Speaking on the family’s behalf following the settlement, Fran Mayes, Partner and serious injury specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said: “We are very pleased to have reached this settlement that will help to provide for a young woman with profound disabilities and extensive care needs.
“Although Vicki’s mother cares for her with incredible devotion, she needs 24 hour support and has to date been relying on limited care and respite, funded by the Primary Care Trust and the local authority. This settlement will help to provide a better quality of life for Vicki.
“Nothing can replace what has been taken away from Vicki, but we hope this settlement will allow her family to provide for Vicki for the rest of her life and will enable her to live as comfortably as possible.”
