Inquest Into Death Of Devon Dad Of Two To Begin

Family Look For Answers

An inquest into the unexpected death of a Devon father of two is to start on Thursday, November 24th at 10am at Exeter Coroners Court.

The family of 31-year-old Rikki Baker from Exeter, who died just days after he was diagnosed with an ear infection, have welcomed the chance to better understand what happened at the hearing.
Julie Lewis, a medical law expert at Irwin Mitchell who is acting on behalf of the family said: “This has been an incredibly difficult time for the Baker family, in particular his wife and two children who have suffered a great loss.

“They hope that the inquest will go someway to answering the many questions they have regarding his death so that they can finally look to move forward with their lives.”

Mr Baker became unwell in early July 2010 suffering from vertigo, a sore throat, sensitivity to light and severe earache.

On the 24th he attended the A&E Department of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and was referred to Exeter walk-in centre, where he was diagnosed with an ear infection and discharged.

His family subsequently maintained regular contact with out of hours doctors in the coming days, requesting help, and two days later he was taken by ambulance to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital where, on July 30th, he sadly passed away.
