Children Hospitalised Over Contamination Fears
Police are investigating after concerns were raised that children in West Lothian had come into contact with waste chemicals close to a dental practice.
Emergency services were called after reports reached them of a chemical spill in Whitburn. While no spillage was located, four children were taken to hospital over fears they were contaminated with chemical residue.
However, none of the children required medical treatment following the incident.
Elaine Russell, an injury and illness expert at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office, said: “While it is welcome that no one was hurt in this incident, reassurances need to be offered that such problems do not arise in the future.
“We help a number of people who have been seriously injured or fallen ill as result of exposure to dangerous chemicals and have seen the devastating impact this can often have on many lives.
“The handling of waste chemicals should always been managed in a correct and proper manner that ensures the general public and those responsible for their disposal are safe from any possible harm.”
