Workers And Visitors Urged To Be Prepared For Loud Music
A noise-induced hearing loss specialist at Irwin Mitchell has called on those both attending and working at music festivals over the summer months to take care and protect themselves from potential deafness.
Music lovers of all ages have been heading to major festivals in the past few weeks, with Glastonbury, T in the Park and a host of others already being held and many more to set to take place in the coming months.
However, with the festival season in full swing, hearing loss experts at Irwin Mitchell have called on both workers at the sites and those visiting to take care to ensure they are fully prepared and protected from the risks that long spells of loud music can have on their ears.
Lee Carnall, an industrial disease specialist at the firm’s Sheffield office, outlines: “While festivals are undoubtedly exciting events, people can often underestimate the potential dangers of prolonged exposure to loud noise or music.
“This issue is not a new one and we have already seen the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health launch a campaign this year to warn those in the music and entertainment sectors about the need for protection against noise-related hearing loss and conditions like tinnitus.
“While occupational hearing problems are often linked to industrial settings, we act for an increasing number of people who have suffered hearing loss and related problems as a result of working in the noise.
“We would urge festival-goers, workers and employers who are on festival sites to not ignore these dangers and do everything they can to ensure they are still able to enjoy such events in years to come.”
