Expert Calls For Patients To Come First

Efforts must be made to ensure that any reforms of the NHS do not impact on the quality of care that is on offer to patients, a medical negligence expert has suggested.

Georgina Sheldon of Irwin Mitchell reacted after the organisation which represents 95 per cent of NHS bodies suggested that the government’s health reforms may lead to “risks and uncertainties”.

According to the Guardian, Nigel Edwards of the NHS confederation suggested that changes may lead to “a real danger of failures in quality of care or finances”.

Negligence expert Georgina Sheldon said that such feedback needs to be taken seriously and addressed by healthcare authorities.

She explained: “So many of the cases that I have been involved in emerge as a result of errors that could have been avoided by NHS staff.

“Because of this, it is vital that the introduction of any reforms is carried out in a manner that ensures services are not badly disrupted in a manner which impacts on the care received by the public.

“Patient safety must always be at the top of the agenda for the NHS.”
