Expert Calls For Issue To Not Be Taken Lightly
Employers must not underestimate the impact that acoustic shock can have on members of staff, a leading workplace injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell has claimed.
Lee Carnall, who specialises in cases linked to industrial deafness and hearing problems, reacted after the Acoustic Safety Programme suggested that the matter remains one which is not dealt with seriously enough by businesses.
According to the organisation, many firms still fail to train workers in order to raise awareness of the issue, meaning staff also do not report such injuries as acoustic shock.
Discussing the issue, Lee Carnall joined the programme in calling for companies to accept a problem exists that needs to be dealt with in the correct manner.
He explained: “So many of the cases I have dealt with highlight both the physical and psychological impact that acoustic shock can have on employees working in a number of sectors.
“While the correct noise control standards can be used to address the issue, it seems many companies still believe that there is no reason for it to be.
“I urge any businesses with this mindset to think again and ensure they do not take the issue of acoustic shock lightly.”
