Training For Those Involved In Agriculture
Potato harvesting and handling continues to be one of the most dangerous sectors of the agriculture industry. While the most serious injuries continue to happen on potato harvesters, there are also significant numbers of injuries in other parts of the sector, such as slips and trips at grading lines.
To help raise awareness of the hazards and reduce the risks involved, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has supported the Potato Council in the development of a computer training DVD 'Safe Potato Operations' and urges all those involved in the potato industry to ensure they obtain a copy and make use of it.
David Urpeth from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "The agricultural industry is a second most likely industrial sector where a worker will be killed following an accident at work.
“As such, I welcome the HSE's latest initiative to reduce the tragic numbers of those injured or killed following a work accident.”
