Road Accident
A road accident involving 10 vehicles near Kettering left several people needing hospital treatment and halted traffic in both directions for several hours.
The accident, which took place on the A14 on, occurred when a steel container ran into stationary traffic between junctions 10 and 11 on the A14, police said. The 29-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Four motorists were taken to Kettering General Hospital by ambulance, one of whom was a 23-year-old resident of Kettering. The others included a 29-year-old from Suffolk, a 36-year-old from Thrapston, a 39-year-old from Islip.
A hospital spokeswoman said the motorists had sustained serious injuries, but that they were not life-threatening.
A 56-year-old woman from Hayes and a 19-year-old woman from Kettering were also airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.
The resulting chaos caused motorists to be stranded for several hours, and required five fire crews to be present at the scene of the accident.
