Heathrow Airport accident

A worker has been killed after a buggy collapsed on top of him at Heathrow airport, police have said.

The man, in his 50s, is thought to have been using a jack to elevate the airport vehicle and was working underneath it when it fell.

Emergency crews were called to the incident, close to Terminal 1, to treat the man's head injuries but he was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesperson for the Met Police said.

Post mortem tests will be conducted and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed, the spokesperson added.

The victim, who worked for ground handling firm Aviance, will not be identified until all next of kin have been notified.

A spokeswoman for BAA said: "We can sadly confirm that an airport worker was fatally injured in an accident on the airfield."
