Product Liability
Lawyers specialising in Product Liability have raised concerns following a report from BBC's Inside Out that some skin lightening products on sale contain banned substances.
Neyasha from Northamptonshire who spoke to investigators used a product that, unknown to her, contained an illegal substance which left her face burnt and scarred.
Despite it being a criminal offence to sell, the products contained a toxic substance called hydroquinone which is said to be the biological equivalent of paint stripper or bleach.
Katrina Elsey from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "In this modern, appearance conscious society we live in today, consumers need to be aware of what ingredients are contained within a product. Manufacturers need to clearly label products and carefully select their ingredients so as to not cause injury or harm to consumers."
