Tube Derailment in London

If you or someone you know has been affected

The incident happened on the Central line westbound between Mile End and Bethnal Green stations in east London just after 9am. Six carriages came off the track but the train remained in an upright position. 700 people were taken off the derailed train. Twenty people were injured, five of whom were taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries, including panic attacks and an ankle injury.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch will now be investigating the cause of the accident and are looking at the possibility of an obstruction on the line. An initial report has suggested the derailment was caused by a loose "bale of material" inside the tunnel.

The Tube maintenance firm has ordered an immediate review of storage sites used by staff and contractors to be completed before the start of service Friday morning. ail investigators were looking at the possibility of an obstruction on the line.
