Tombstoning injury
A 24-year-old holidaymaker was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after jumping off a 40ft (12m) cliff in north Cornwall. In a craze known as "tombstoning", the man plunged from cliffs at Treyarnon.
After landing awkwardly in the water a lifeboat brought him back to shore and he subsequently developed breathing problems. Lifeguards were concerned his symptoms suggested spinal injury so the man was flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.
Lifeguards reiterated their call for people not to tombstone, no matter how deep the water is.
