Irwin Mitchell was proud to be asked to sponsor a new publication in 2016 supporting clear and concise information about brain
injuries. The Brain Injury Social Work Group (BISWG) and the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) have developed a piece of
practice guidance to assist social workers who work with people with an acquired brain injury where this is not a presenting problem.
The guidance aims to increase awareness among social workers of the condition and to provide advice about what an acquired brain
injury is and how social work intervention can help. It also links to the appropriate level of knowledge and skills as identified in the
Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) and the Knowledge and Skills Statement for adults, children and family social work.
You can view the publication online at:
www.biswg.co.uk/resources. Please also visit the website to get more information on how to
get a hardcopy. Additionally, please go to their events page to get information about how to attend one of their three events around
the country where BISWG are presenting the guide in more detail.
