An intrepid duo from the Manchester office of Irwin Mitchell recently scaled the dizzy heights and some of the length of the Great Wall of China, for the national charity, Headway – the brain injury association. Lynne Carrick- Leary, Business Development Manager and Jennifer Cawthorne, Medical Negligence Partner both wanted to complete an extreme challenge and as walking is one of their favourite pastimes, walking The Great Wall of China seemed the obvious choice.

“We were thrilled to be able to take up this challenge,” Jennifer commented. “The challenge was indeed a little daunting taking into consideration the heat and humidity, especially when we had to climb 1400 steps one day to get to the wall. Our training throughout the previous year really paid off. We were fortunate enough to walk along some of the restored parts at Huangyaguan, Jinshanling and Mutianyu, but even better, we were taking off to walk on some of the more deserted parts of the crumbling wall where very few walkers go. It truly was an amazing experience; insightful, awesome views, and inspirational.”

Commenting on why they chose Headway, Lynne comments: “Headway are a fantastic national charity whose work we have seen first-hand and are an integral part of the brain injury community, offering help and support to anyone who has suffered a brain injury, their families and friends as well as through their superb network of regional support groups and branches. We are very proud to have raised £11,377.50 for Headway.”
