Irwin Mitchell Aviation Law

Over the last four decades Irwin Mitchell Aviation Law has developed extensive experience in handling aviation claims for passengers and crew involved in aviation accidents around the world, including international airliner disasters, business jet, light aircraft, helicopter and military accidents.

We are specialists in aviation accident and disaster claims, helping victims and their families to claim compensation. We are a leading aviation law firm in terms of our pedigree, aviation expertise, legal expertise and resources.

Pedigree

Irwin Mitchell was established in 1912 and has been a leading personal injury firm for decades. The aviation practice was founded in the 1980s and we have vast experience in dealing with international aviation disasters.

We have particular expertise in US product liability claims against US aircraft and component manufacturers. We have also been pioneers in the “Mid Atlantic Settlement” process - this is the approach where non-US victims of international aviation disasters may settle their cases at a level that is between very high US compensation levels and the much lower compensation available in their own country.

Irwin Mitchell is rated in the top tier in the Legal 500, Chambers and other independent legal directories. Clive Garner, who has over 20 years experience in international and aviation claims, heads the Aviation team that continues to achieve, and exceed, the high standards that have earned us our excellent reputation in this area.

Professional Aviation Expertise

The aviation expertise of our team is unrivalled. Jim Morris, a fully qualified Royal Air Force pilot and aviation lawyer, uses his professional pilot and legal expertise to investigate the causes of an accident so that the best tactics for progressing the case can be determined at an early stage.

This expertise combined with the use of certified flight simulators and leading avionics and flight engineer experts is used to determine where fault lies, be it with the operator, the aircraft manufacturer, the manufacturer of aircraft components or other parties.

Our approach allows us to help our clients to recover the best possible compensation settlement, particularly if a US manufactured component has contributed to the accident. It also assists by promptly identifying flight safety issues and credible theories about the cause of the accident, which is of great benefit to the victims and their families who often have to wait several years before the official accident report is published.

Legal Expertise

Our aviation lawyers deliver the highest standards in terms of legal ability, and have many years of successful trial and aviation claims experience.  The team specialise in acting for the victims of disasters or accidents, giving us unsurpassed expertise and experience in terms of claims for those injured or affected by air accidents.

Our depth of experience can be seen in the list of current and previous cases where we have helped the victims of air accidents.  Our experience in this area of law also means that we know how to deal with the global aviation insurance market, and its lawyers, which are based in London, to achieve the best results for our clients.

Resources

Irwin Mitchell is one of the largest personal injury firms in Europe with more than 2,300 staff working from offices throughout the UK and Spain.

We are an international practice with lawyers qualified in a number of countries, including the UK, US and Spain. We have lawyers fluent in a number of languages and have experience of dealing with claims arising all over the world. This, coupled with long-established working relationships with leading law firms worldwide, means that we have the resources to act in all types of aviation cases around the world, from light aircraft accidents to major airline disasters.

Choose us and you will enjoy the reassurance that you will receive exceptional one-to-one service and that we have the resources to fearlessly fight your case to successful settlement or, if necessary, all the way to judge or jury verdict at trial.

Since we started our aviation practice in the 1980s, we have represented many passengers and their families following aviation accidents around the world.

For all of our clients, whether they have suffered serious injury or for the families of those fatally injured, we have provided expert guidance and support.

In the aftermath of an aviation accident, victims and their families often face coming to terms with life-changing events, as well as a hugely complicated technical and legal arena of air accident investigations and aviation law.

In these difficult times our clients have needed help from a specialist aviation law practice that can handle claims on their behalf against the financial might of the airlines, manufacturers and aviation insurers.

We have used our expertise and experience to help hundreds of clients obtain justice and hold those liable to account, to obtain answers on the causes of the accident and to improve flight safety.

Flight safety has been directly improved through increased public awareness and pressure on the airlines and manufacturers. These companies have also been encouraged to improve their practices and procedures as a result of the significant compensation awards that we have achieved for our clients.

Money can never fully compensate victims of air accidents for what they have been through. But financial settlements won for our clients over the last four decades have assisted the victims and their families to move on and rebuild their lives. People who have been severely disabled by their injuries have been able to fund the purchase of appropriate accommodation, equipment and care to cater for their specialised needs. People who have lost a loved one who earned income for the family have been able to put their financial worries behind them and move into a more secure future.

"This is a letter to record our sincere thanks to you and your team for all the help and support you have given us. Without it I do not know how we would have been able to cope. I do not have to tell you how distressing a time it has been, but when I described you elsewhere as a rock that we have been able to lean on and sometimes very heavily, I really meant it."

Robert Dicketts (RAF Nimrod Air Accident 2006)
