Man Attacked by Hotel Guests In Dominican Republic

Travel law specialists at Irwin Mitchell have been instructed by Mr John Luchford after he was brutally assaulted during a holiday in the Dominican Republic in December 2008.

Mr Luchford was accompanying younger members of his holiday group to a disco bar in the early hours of the morning when the incident happened. As Mr Luchford was leaving the disco, he was attacked by another hotel guest and his family. He was grabbed from behind and strangled until he was almost unconscious. The hotel security was eventually alerted to the trouble by the shouts of Mr Luchford’s cousin. He was taken to the Medical Centre by hotel security staff. Mr Luchford has sustained a serious bite to his ear and trauma to the left eye which. He received stitches to his wounds and then returned to his hotel room.

The following day, Mr Luchford started to suffer abdominal pain. On 20th December, he was taken to hospital and underwent surgery to treat a large haematoma in his pancreas. He was also found to have lacerations to his liver and was forced to spend Christmas alone in hospital.

Mr Luchford continues to suffer psychologically as a result of the incident and has permanent damage to his left eye, pains in his neck and eating problems for which he requires medication.
