A Law Firm For Life

Whether concerning goods and services, or perhaps a residential dispute with a neighbour, Consumer Disputes can be drawn out and costly.

Experts In Consumer Disputes

Irwin Mitchell is one of the few national practices with a specialist consumer unit. We can deal with your case in a cost-effective, practical way, drawing on experience in all manner of issues, acting for both complainants and defendants.

Our Consumer Disputes team also prides itself on its expertise at resolving matters out of court, often through mediation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Irwin Mitchell will support you in your claim in any way we can. However, in claims of less than £5000 in value, it is normally very difficult to recover your legal costs from your opponent - even if you are successful.

Compensation For Defective Builder Workmanship

James Berry recently helped his client achieve settlement in a consumer building dispute.

Having instructed a builder to carry out renovation work to her property, our client was forced to have a second builder carry out repair work as a result of the first builder’s defective workmanship. Unsurprisingly, our client refused to pay the builder for his defective workmanship, however, despite the poor workmanship, the builder issued court proceedings and successfully obtained Judgment against our client.

However, on being instructed, James successfully had the Judgment Set Aside arguing that the builder’s work had been defective and that the value of the work carried out did not justify the figure which she was being sued for. James then entered into negotiations with the builder and eventually secured a settlement for his client which brought an end to the court proceedings as well as ending the stress and inconvenience being caused to her.
