About Irwin Mitchell
Founded in 1912 by Walter Irwin Mitchell, we’ve since expanded to become a national law firm with international capability. We’ve helped over one million clients in our 100 year history. They include national and international organisations and institutions, small and medium-sized businesses and private individuals.
We have an established network of 16 offices across the UK and are the 11th largest law firm in the country. We currently employ over 2,500 members of staff, including more than 1,000 legally trained personnel. The Business Legal Services division is the fastest-growing area of the firm, with an increasing number of global, national and regional companies choosing to work with us.
Supporting our local communities has always been an important part of our company, which is why we take pride in our social responsibility activity. The Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF), a charity set up in 1997, has since donated more than £1 million to worthy local and national causes. We take voluntary work seriously, providing every employee with 14 hours to use on voluntary work each year, giving something back to our communities.
Under our Paralegal Apprenticeship programme you’ll receive:
- Job-specific training through working alongside experienced staff.
- A competency-based qualification to demonstrate you have the skills required to carry out the job. These are assessed by breaking down the contents of the jobs within your specific occupation into tasks called units of competence, and will be measured through observations, assessments and witness testimony.
- A technical qualification that includes the knowledge needed to become a qualified legal executive.
Your academic and competency training will be through CILEx Law School, which has strong employer links in the legal sector. Law firms are increasingly using CILEx Law School training to develop support staff into fee earning roles through legal apprenticeships like ours. For more information, please visit their website.
In line with the Living Wage Foundation recommendations, we will pay you a generous salary. We also have an exciting benefits package in addition to your competitive basic salary, including a contributory pension scheme, critical illness cover, health cash plan, death in service payments, discounted legal services and 25 days holiday. We also offer an on-site canteen and Starbucks, corporate gym membership, plus many more exciting discounts.
- Duration of apprenticeship: 24 months
You will need five GCSE grades A to C or equivalent, including Maths and English. You will also need three A-level grades C or above or equivalent, excluding General Studies (these can be predicted at application stage but any offer will be subject to attaining these grades).
Vacancies will be advertised on our website as they arise. For more information, please download our factsheet on the Paralegal Apprenticeship Programme.
