We were thrilled to be an official partner of the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge 2015 (WWRC15), part of the Rugby World Cup Festival. The tournament saw eight teams battle it out to be crowned champions, including 2012 Paralympic Gold medallists Australia, fellow Paralympic medallists Canada and USA, alongside New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, France and hosts Great Britain.
The fast and intensely competitive action took place at the iconic Copper Box Arena, a venue within London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The tournament ran from 12-16 October 2015, with coverage being shown on ITV4.
Nations were divided into two pools who battled it out with the hope of reaching Thursday’s semi-finals and Friday’s medal matches.
Wheelchair rugby involves two teams of four players facing each other with the ultimate aim of scoring ‘tries’ by carrying the ball across their opposition’s try line. The action is fast-paced with lots of contact and drama.
Irwin Mitchell was proud to be an official partner as part of our continued support for disability sport, through our "Don’t Quit, Do It" campaign. We recognise that sport can play a key part in rehabilitation and recovery following a life-changing injury and "Don’t Quit, Do It" highlights the ways people can get involved and some of the inspiring journeys our clients have made.
