Suzette Squires



Suzette advises on all areas of employment law and her clients range from individuals and small businesses, to large PLCs. Many of her clients are in the real estate, construction and financial services industries.

Suzette is highly experienced in advising on contentious matters, including proceedings in the Employment Tribunal and Civil Courts. Her principal focus, however, is on transactional and strategic advisory work in relation to acquisitions, disposals and outsourcing.

Recent highlights:

  • Advising a high street bank in relation to breaches of confidentiality obligations and restrictive covenants by approximately 20 senior employees.
  • Advising a national construction company in relation to worker status litigation involving approximately 25 claimants and representing a potential six figure financial liability.
  • Advising on the employment issues arising from the acquisition of a group specialising in cash counting with operations in the UK, Spain, France and the US.
  • Assisting a national clothes retailer with the employment aspects of its application for admission onto AIM.
  • Advising a private bank’s senior management team on the outsourcing of its IT function to two off-shore service providers.

    Workplace Headscarf Ban Is Not Directly Discriminatory Says ECJ

    "The wearing of visible religious symbols by staff in the workplace has been the subject of high profile litigation for several years. This judgment demonstrates the importance for businesses wanting to ban staff from wearing any such symbol (including a headscarf) at work to have a well-documented policy in place which requires staff to “dress neutrally”, and to apply that policy consistently. Businesses still need to be cautious when implementing such policies, and should ensure that they are proportionate and have a legitimate aim behind them."
