VW Scandal: Legal Experts Call On Government To Act

“It is worrying that, even before the results of the official investigation have come back, Volkswagen are already ruling out paying compensation to their European customers. They have kept their customers in the dark and left them wondering if they have essentially been mis-sold vehicles which do not meet current European emission standards. They don’t know if their cars will need modifications and if so, how this might affect performance, fuel consumption and the future re-sale value of the vehicle. We are urging VW to treat British customers with the respect they deserve and reconsider their position on compensation. If they don’t then perhaps it is time for the Government to intervene and put pressure on the firm to ensure they accept responsibility in a manner which protects the consumer. Our clients can rest assured that if VW fail to negotiate a settlement package for British customers we shall be pursuing further legal action on their behalf.”

VW Emissions Scandal: Lawyers Reveal Concerns As Attention Turns To 2016 Range

“At first it appeared that it was just diesel vehicles which were being affected but following yet more admissions from VW it would seem hundreds of thousands of petrol vehicles in the newest range, some of which have already been sold, could be at risk. This new information will only increase the problems faced by VW. We are concerned that their customers may have been subject to breach of contract or misrepresentation, as they would essentially have been sold a vehicle on the pretence that it meets key UK and EU regulations regarding emissions. Over one thousand eight hundred worried customers have already been in touch with us and that figure is growing daily. It shows just how many people could be affected by this issue. The numbers are unprecedented. Potentially these consumers could make claims against VW or its dealerships, both VW owned or franchised. Dealerships and VW shareholders are also likely to bring claims against VW for their financial losses. Consumers may also be entitled to claim for repair costs to rectify the issue, and the possibility that the value of their VW or Audi vehicle could depreciate more quickly as a result of what has happened. We would urge anyone with concerns regarding issues with VW or Audi vehicles to seek expert legal advice. Irwin Mitchell has established a register of those affected and will provide concerned individuals with updates on their rights and the legal redress available.”
